New study combines skin scans and DNA to catch melanoma earlier
NCT ID NCT07277920
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at 200 people with suspicious moles that are already scheduled for removal. Researchers will use a special microscope (reflectance confocal microscopy) to take detailed images of the moles and then compare those images with genetic tests from the removed tissue. The goal is to find patterns that help tell harmless moles from early melanomas, which could lead to faster and more accurate diagnosis.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to better, non-invasive tools for spotting early melanoma and reduce unnecessary biopsies.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not directly change patient care, and results might not apply to all skin types or settings.
