Can zapping the main tumor boost survival in advanced lung cancer?
NCT ID NCT07462728
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study looks at people with advanced non-small cell lung cancer that has spread to many places (more than five spots). It tests whether adding high-precision radiation to the main lung tumor, on top of standard drug therapy, helps them live longer and keeps the tumor from growing. About 200 participants will be randomly assigned to get either drugs alone or drugs plus radiation, and researchers will track survival and side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Three-dimensional radiotherapy
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that treating the main lung tumor with radiation, alongside standard drugs, helps people with advanced lung cancer live longer and control the disease better.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage trial with only 200 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Radiotherapy can cause side effects like fatigue or lung irritation, and it's unclear if the benefits will outweigh the risks.
