Can a triple-drug cocktail re-sensitize lung cancer to treatment?

NCT ID NCT05599789

First seen Jul 28, 2026 · Last updated Jul 29, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests whether adding plinabulin to a standard combination of pembrolizumab and docetaxel can shrink tumors or slow disease progression in people with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer that has worsened after prior immunotherapy. About 47 adults with advanced squamous or non-squamous NSCLC will receive all three drugs intravenously every three weeks. The main goal is to see how many patients experience a significant tumor response.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
a combination of pembrolizumab, plinabulin, and docetaxel
What this could lead to
If successful, this combination could offer a new treatment option for people with advanced lung cancer whose disease has worsened after standard immunotherapy.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase 2 trial with only 47 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Combining three drugs also raises the risk of serious side effects.
