Heat therapy for lung tumors: a new option for inoperable patients?
NCT ID NCT00280189
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at using radiofrequency ablation (RFA) — a procedure that uses heat to destroy tumors — to treat lung cancer or tumors that have spread to the lungs. It is for patients who cannot have surgery due to other health issues. The goal is to see if RFA can control tumors, improve survival, and maintain quality of life. The trial is currently suspended and aims to enroll 72 participants.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
radiofrequency ablation
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a less invasive option to control lung tumors and improve quality of life for patients who cannot undergo surgery.
What could go wrong
This trial is suspended and small (72 participants). It is early-stage research, so results may not be conclusive or widely applicable. Risks include procedure-related complications like pain or chest tube drainage.
