New surgery may prevent ovarian cancer while preserving ovaries in high-risk women

NCT ID NCT01608074

First seen Jan 24, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tests a surgery called radical fimbriectomy in 123 women with BRCA mutations who are at high risk for ovarian cancer but want to keep their ovaries. The surgery removes the fallopian tubes, where many of these cancers start, while leaving the ovaries intact to maintain natural hormone production. The goal is to see if this approach can prevent pelvic cancers without the need for full ovary removal.
