Gentle movement, big relief? qi gong tested for trauma symptoms

NCT ID NCT07670663

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether 12 weekly Qi Gong sessions can reduce dissociative symptoms—like feeling disconnected from yourself or your surroundings—in adults who experienced childhood trauma. Ninety outpatients will be randomly assigned to either add Qi Gong to their usual care or continue with usual care alone. Researchers will measure changes using questionnaires before, after, and two months following the program.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Qi Gong sessions

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a gentle, non-drug option to help people with trauma-related dissociation feel more present and grounded.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 90 participants. Qi Gong may not reduce symptoms for everyone, and the results may not apply to broader populations.
