Zapping nerves to zap bladder pain: tiny trial tests new approach

NCT ID NCT06204874

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether delivering tiny electrical bursts to a nerve bundle in the lower back can reduce pain in women with bladder pain syndrome. Five women will receive the procedure once and be followed for six months. Researchers will measure pain, bladder symptoms, mood, and sexual function. Because it is a very small, early study without a placebo group, results will be preliminary.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

pulsed radiofrequency ablation

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new, non-drug option for women with bladder pain syndrome.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early case series with only 5 participants and no comparison group. The procedure may not provide lasting pain relief, and there are risks from needle insertion near the spine.
