Could your Child's skin tone affect oxygen readings? new study investigates

NCT ID NCT06575270

Summary

This study aims to understand if pulse oximeters, the clip-on devices that measure blood oxygen, are equally accurate for children with different levels of skin pigmentation. It will observe 92 pediatric patients with congenital heart disease who are already scheduled for heart surgery. Researchers will measure each child's skin tone with a special device and compare it to the accuracy of the pulse oximeter reading taken during their normal surgical care.
