Can calming the nerves protect the heart in PTSD?
NCT ID NCT01627301
First seen Jan 18, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study looks at why people with PTSD often have higher risk for heart problems. Researchers will measure nerve activity and blood pressure control in 120 veterans, some with PTSD and some without. They will test if 8 weeks of daily deep breathing or a mild nerve-stimulating device can calm the overactive stress system. The goal is to understand the body's response, not to cure PTSD.
