First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a videoconference with a psychologist before anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee surgery can reduce pain afterward. It includes 126 anxious patients scheduled for first-time ACL reconstruction. The main goal is to compare pain levels the night after surgery between those who had the psychological consultation and those who did not.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that a simple talk with a psychologist before surgery helps reduce pain and improve recovery for anxious patients.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 126 participants. The benefit may be small or not apply to everyone, and results depend on patients' willingness to engage.
