Mailed quiz could spot hidden arthritis in psoriasis patients
NCT ID NCT04110522
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether sending a short screening questionnaire directly to people with psoriasis can help detect psoriatic arthritis earlier. 18,000 participants will be randomly assigned to receive the questionnaire or not. Those with high scores will be advised to see a rheumatologist. The goal is to see if this direct-to-patient approach leads to more and earlier diagnoses of psoriatic arthritis.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Psoriasis Epidemiology Screening Tool (PEST) questionnaire
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could help detect psoriatic arthritis earlier in people with psoriasis, potentially leading to faster treatment and better outcomes.
What could go wrong
This is a screening study, not a treatment trial. It may not prove that earlier detection improves long-term health, and the questionnaire might miss some cases or cause unnecessary worry.
