New PET scan could better spot prostate cancer spread
NCT ID NCT06099093
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a new type of PET scan (18F-DCFPyL PSMA-PET) can show prostate cancer lesions as well as the standard scan (68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT) in 30 men with advanced prostate cancer who are receiving a targeted radiation therapy (177Lu-vipivotide tetraxetan). The goal is to see if the new scan is a reliable option for monitoring the disease. Participants will get the experimental scan before starting their standard treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
18F-DCFPyL (a radioactive tracer for PET imaging)
What this could lead to
If successful, this imaging method could offer a more accessible or effective way to monitor prostate cancer spread during treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study (30 people) comparing two imaging scans, not testing a new treatment. The new scan may not prove better or more practical than the existing one.
