New scan could sharpen detection of liver cancer
NCT ID NCT06999837
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a special PET/CT scan using a radioactive tracer called PSMA to get clearer images of liver cancer (HCC). Researchers want to see if this dynamic whole-body scan can better detect new or returning tumors compared to standard methods. Forty adults with liver cancer will be scanned, and the results will be compared with biopsies or follow-up scans over six months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
[68Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 (a radioactive tracer for PET scans)
What this could lead to
If successful, this imaging technique could help doctors more accurately detect and monitor liver cancer, potentially guiding better treatment decisions.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage imaging study (40 participants) focused on diagnostic accuracy, not treatment. The new method may not prove significantly better than current scans.
