NCT ID NCT07104916

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is testing whether a single dose of psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) combined with mindfulness-based therapy can help people with PTSD. Thirty adults with PTSD will receive psilocybin along with either standard support or extra mindfulness training. Researchers will use brain scans and EEG to see how the treatment changes brain activity and connectivity, and whether it reduces PTSD symptoms.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
psilocybin
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new treatment approach for PTSD that combines a psychedelic drug with mindfulness therapy.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early-phase pilot study with only 30 people, so results may not apply widely. Psilocybin can cause intense psychological effects and is not yet approved for PTSD.
