Magic mushroom compound tested for chronic pain relief
NCT ID NCT06355414
Summary
This early-stage study from Johns Hopkins University is testing whether a single dose of psilocybin, the active compound in 'magic mushrooms,' can help people who suffer from both chronic lower back pain and depression. Forty participants will receive either psilocybin or a stimulant (methylphenidate) and then report on their pain, mood, and daily experiences for a month. The main goal is to see if psilocybin is safe and acceptable for this condition and if it can improve positive feelings and reduce negative thoughts about pain.
