Can your own blood heal a torn knee ligament?
NCT ID NCT07185802
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a single injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), made from the patient's own blood, can improve healing in people with partial anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears. Half of the 52 participants will get the injection plus standard rehab; the other half will get rehab alone. Researchers will measure pain and knee function over 16 weeks to see if PRP offers extra benefit.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a simple, natural injection to improve healing and reduce pain for people with partial ACL tears, possibly avoiding surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase trial with only 52 people. PRP may not provide any extra benefit over standard rehab, and results may not apply to more severe injuries.
