Nerve block before ACL surgery could help teens recover faster
NCT ID NCT06875427
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a numbing injection (nerve block) given before ACL knee surgery helps teens recover better. About 38 participants aged 10-18 will either get the block plus standard anesthesia or standard anesthesia alone. Researchers will measure recovery quality, pain, opioid use, and satisfaction up to 6 weeks after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ropivacaine and dexmedetomidine
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that a simple nerve block before ACL surgery helps teens recover faster with less pain and fewer opioids.
What could go wrong
This is a small feasibility trial with only 38 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The block may not improve recovery and carries rare risks like nerve injury or allergic reaction.
