AI learns to spot clean surgical zones in ACL repair

NCT ID NCT07636278

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This observational study tests whether artificial intelligence can automatically recognize clean surgical areas and key bone landmarks on video from routine ACL knee reconstruction. About 100 adults undergoing ACL surgery will have standard arthroscopic video recorded and used to train and validate the AI software. No extra procedures or time are needed. The goal is to see if AI can help guide tunnel placement, but this is an early, non-treatment study.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this AI could help surgeons place bone tunnels more accurately during ACL reconstruction, potentially improving surgical outcomes.
What could go wrong
This is an early observational study with no direct treatment benefit. The AI may not work reliably in all patients or surgical settings.

This is an AI summary of the original study and may miss details. Read our disclaimer.
