First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will follow 100 adults aged 65 and older who have a broken shoulder (proximal humerus fracture). Some will receive surgery (plates, screws, or a shoulder replacement) and others will be treated without surgery. Researchers will measure shoulder movement, pain, and daily function to see which approach leads to the best recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors choose the best treatment for older adults with shoulder fractures, improving recovery and quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a controlled trial, so results may not prove one treatment is better. It is also small and not yet recruiting.
