New proton beam method targets tough sarcoma tumors
NCT ID NCT06327477
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This early-phase trial tests a new type of proton radiation called P-SFRT, which delivers high doses to tumors while sparing nearby organs. It is for people with newly diagnosed retroperitoneal soft tissue sarcoma that has not been treated yet. The study aims to find the best dose and see if combining it with standard radiation improves tumor shrinkage.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Proton-spatially fractionated radiotherapy (P-SFRT)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a more effective radiation approach for a hard-to-treat sarcoma, potentially improving tumor shrinkage and local control.
What could go wrong
This is an early first-in-human trial with only 28 participants, so safety and efficacy are not yet established. There is a risk of side effects from high-dose radiation near sensitive organs.
