Veterans to 'Test-Drive' prosthetic feet for better stability and fewer falls
NCT ID NCT05473065
First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study is testing whether a brief 'test-drive' of different prosthetic feet can help veterans with below-knee amputations find the one that gives them the best stability and balance. About 100 veterans will try out several prosthetic feet in a lab and then wear each one at home for a week. The goal is to see if a short trial can predict which foot will work best in daily life, potentially reducing falls and improving confidence.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- prosthetic foot devices
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a simple 'test-drive' method for matching veterans with the best prosthetic foot, reducing falls and improving confidence.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage study with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The test-drive approach may not predict long-term real-world outcomes accurately.
