Which prostate surgery works best? new trial aims to find out

NCT ID NCT07562386

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two common surgeries for men with an enlarged prostate causing urinary problems: standard TURP and a newer technique called bipolar enucleation (BEEP). About 120 men with moderate-sized prostates will be randomly assigned to one surgery. Researchers will measure symptom relief, patient experience, and cost-effectiveness over 12 months to see if one method is better.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
surgical procedure (transurethral resection or bipolar enucleation of the prostate)
What this could lead to
If one method proves better, it could become the preferred surgery for men with enlarged prostate, improving symptom relief and quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a moderate-sized trial (120 men) comparing two established procedures, so no dramatic breakthrough is expected. Results may not apply to all prostate sizes or health conditions.
