Urine test showdown: could a simple sample replace needle biopsy for prostate cancer?

NCT ID NCT01441687

First seen Mar 24, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study compares two types of urine samples—prostatic fluid and post-massage urine—to see which one better predicts whether a prostate biopsy will find cancer. About 243 men scheduled for a prostate biopsy will provide both samples, and researchers will check which sample's markers match the biopsy results most accurately. The goal is to find a less invasive way to help decide who really needs a biopsy.
