Protein-Packed sauce could fight malnutrition in seniors
NCT ID NCT06965699
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a plant-based, protein-dense sauce (ProSauce) helps older adults absorb essential amino acids better than a standard low-protein sauce, without making them feel too full. Twenty healthy adults aged 60 and over will eat two test meals in random order, and researchers will measure their blood amino acid levels and appetite hormones over six hours. The goal is to find a simple way to boost protein intake in older people at risk of malnutrition.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ProSauce (plant-based, protein-dense sauce)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple dietary supplement to help older adults get more protein from meals, potentially preventing malnutrition.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage study with only 20 participants. It only looks at short-term blood markers and appetite, not long-term health outcomes. The sauce may not be practical or acceptable for daily use.
