Stomach lying may boost lungs for transplant in organ donors
NCT ID NCT07251777
First seen Dec 10, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study tested whether placing brain-dead organ donors on their stomachs (prone position) helps keep their lungs healthy enough for transplant. Researchers compared this to the usual care of lying on the back (supine) in 254 donors across 10 hospitals in Argentina. The goal was to see if the prone position increases the number of lungs that can be used for transplantation.
