Can a Needle-Free prostate treatment match implant surgery?

NCT ID NCT07759752

First seen Aug 12, 2026 · Last updated Aug 13, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial tests whether a new device called Prolieve, which uses microwave heat and balloon dilation, can relieve moderate-to-severe urinary symptoms from an enlarged prostate as effectively as the established UroLift implant procedure. Men aged 50-80 who haven't found relief from oral medications will be randomly assigned to one of the two same-day office procedures. The study will compare symptom improvement at 3 months and also see if Prolieve causes less pain by avoiding injected anesthesia.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Prolieve Transurethral Thermodilatation System (a device that uses microwave energy and balloon dilation to treat enlarged prostate)
What this could lead to
If Prolieve proves as effective as UroLift, it could offer men a needle-free, injection-free, same-day option for relieving bothersome urinary symptoms from an enlarged prostate.
What could go wrong
This is a non-inferiority trial, so Prolieve might not match UroLift's effectiveness. It's a single-center study with 150 participants, and results may not apply to all men. As with any procedure, there are risks of discomfort or complications.
