Peer support may ease chronic pain for women veterans
NCT ID NCT04229134
First seen Sep 02, 2026 · Last updated Sep 03, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tests a home-based program called Project CONNECT for women veterans with chronic musculoskeletal pain. Participants are paired with a peer and work together over 8 weeks to learn pain coping skills, set activity goals, and follow a walking program. They exchange nightly texts and have weekly phone calls to support each other. The study aims to see if this approach is feasible and acceptable, focusing on whether participants stick with the program.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Project CONNECT, a home-based peer support program where women veterans pair up to learn pain coping skills, set goals, walk, and support each other via texts and calls
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a practical way to help women veterans with chronic pain manage their symptoms at home, reducing barriers to care.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small pilot study with only 4 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The program depends on peer connection, which might not work for everyone.
