Gut health boost: could probiotics help control MS?
NCT ID NCT07168772
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether taking a daily probiotic supplement for six months can improve immune function in people with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS). Eighty adults aged 18-55 will be randomly assigned to receive either the probiotic or a placebo, alongside their usual MS medication. The main goal is to see if the probiotic increases a type of immune cell (Treg cells) that helps control inflammation.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Probiotic supplement (Lactibane Iki) containing Bifidobacterium lactis, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Lactobacillus salivarius
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, safe way to improve immune balance in multiple sclerosis patients already on standard therapy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial focused on immune markers, not clinical symptoms. The probiotic may show no benefit or cause digestive upset.
