Friendly bacteria vs. transplant danger: can a probiotic shield kids?

Summary
This study is testing whether a specific probiotic (Lactobacillus plantarum) can prevent a serious complication called acute graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) in children, teens, and young adults getting a stem cell transplant from a donor for cancers like leukemia or lymphoma. About 173 participants were randomly assigned to receive either the probiotic or a placebo daily, starting before the transplant and continuing for about two months. The main goal is to see if the probiotic reduces gut-related GvHD in the first 120 days after transplant.
