First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tested whether a probiotic called L. lactis CKDB001 can improve liver enzyme levels in people with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). 95 adults with mildly elevated liver enzymes took either the probiotic or a placebo daily for 12 weeks. The goal was to see if the probiotic could safely help control the disease.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

L. lactis CKDB001 (a probiotic)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple, safe supplement to help manage fatty liver disease by improving liver enzyme levels.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with no phase designation, so results may not be conclusive. The probiotic may not significantly improve liver health, and benefits might not apply to everyone.
