New powder could slash infection risk in Kids' brain surgery

Summary

This study tests whether placing vancomycin powder inside the surgical wound during shunt placement can prevent serious infections in children with hydrocephalus. About 164 children, from newborns to age 18, will be enrolled. The goal is to see if this simple, low-cost step reduces infections and is worth the cost compared to standard care.
