Can a wristband stop Post-Surgery nausea? new trial tests acupoint stimulation

NCT ID NCT07631910

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a non-invasive wristband that stimulates an acupoint, combined with anti-nausea drugs, can prevent nausea and vomiting after laparoscopic gynecologic surgery. About 212 women will be randomly assigned to receive either real or sham stimulation, plus either dexamethasone or amisulpride. The goal is to find a better, safer way to prevent this common side effect of anesthesia.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS), dexamethasone, and amisulpride

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to reduce post-surgery nausea and vomiting, potentially shortening hospital stays.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial. The results may not apply to all surgeries, and the acupoint stimulation might not work better than a placebo.
