Could a Pre-Surgery painkiller make jaw surgery recovery easier?
NCT ID NCT07571252
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether giving acetaminophen or ibuprofen before jaw surgery can lower pain after the operation. 72 adults having specific jaw procedures will be split into three groups: one gets IV acetaminophen, one gets IV ibuprofen, and one gets standard care without pre-surgery medication. Researchers will measure pain scores and how much extra pain medicine is needed.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
acetaminophen and ibuprofen (given intravenously before surgery)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a standard way to reduce pain and the need for rescue painkillers after jaw surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial (72 people) testing a common approach, so results may not be dramatic or change practice widely. Pain is subjective and hard to measure precisely.
