Simple bedside test may predict dangerous airway issues in kids under anesthesia
NCT ID NCT07384611
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study watches 1,000 children aged 0-12 getting surgery to see if simple physical checks before anesthesia can predict a difficult airway. Doctors will measure things like jaw size and neck movement, then compare them to how easy or hard it is to place a breathing tube. The goal is to find reliable warning signs so anesthesiologists can prepare better and avoid emergencies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could give doctors a simple checklist to spot children at risk of airway problems during anesthesia, making surgery safer.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It only looks for patterns, so it won't directly change care yet. Results may not apply to all hospitals or children.
