Gut bacteria may hold key to better cancer therapy
NCT ID NCT07263620
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study investigates whether the unique bacteria found inside digestive system tumors can help predict how well a patient will respond to neoadjuvant therapy (chemotherapy before surgery). Researchers will analyze tumor samples from 90 adults with pancreatic, gastric, colorectal, or esophageal cancer. The goal is to develop a model that identifies which patients are most likely to benefit from this treatment, potentially improving outcomes and reducing unnecessary side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a test that helps doctors choose which patients will benefit from neoadjuvant therapy for digestive cancers.
What could go wrong
This is an early exploratory study with only 90 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The findings are observational and need further validation.
