Can a simple test predict breast cancer brain spread?

NCT ID NCT07447544

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study examines stored tumor tissue and blood samples from 22 women with early breast cancer to find genetic or chemical markers that might predict whether the cancer will spread to the brain. Researchers will compare women whose cancer did spread to the brain with those whose did not. The goal is to identify warning signs that could lead to earlier detection, not to test a new treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a blood or tissue test that identifies breast cancer patients at higher risk for brain metastases, allowing closer monitoring.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, observational study (22 people) that only looks for patterns. It does not test any treatment, so any potential test would need much larger studies to confirm.
