A simple Pre-Surgery exercise routine may curb Post-Breast-Cancer arm swelling

NCT ID NCT07743294

First seen Aug 03, 2026 · Last updated Aug 04, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial tests whether starting upper limb rehabilitation exercises one day before breast cancer surgery can reduce the risk and severity of arm lymphedema (swelling) after surgery. Half of the participants will receive individualized exercise instruction, while the other half gets standard nursing education. Researchers will track arm circumference, physical function, quality of life, and care needs over a year to see if the pre-surgery exercise makes a difference.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Preoperative upper limb rehabilitation exercise
What this could lead to
If effective, this simple exercise program could become a standard pre-surgery practice to reduce arm swelling and improve recovery and quality of life for breast cancer patients.
What could go wrong
This is a single-center trial with 105 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The exercise may not significantly reduce lymphedema, and adherence or individual variation could affect outcomes.
