Can one week of radiation beat two for breast cancer?
NCT ID NCT06960707
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing two different radiation schedules for women with early breast cancer who have had a lumpectomy. One group gets radiation over one week, the other over two weeks with an extra boost to the tumor site. Researchers will compare side effects, breast appearance, and how well each schedule prevents cancer from coming back. The goal is to find out if the shorter treatment is just as good or better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
radiation therapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a shorter 1-week radiation schedule is just as safe and effective as a 2-week schedule, making treatment more convenient for patients.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 3 trial, but results may not apply to all breast cancer types. There is still a risk of cancer returning or side effects like fibrosis, and the 1-week schedule might not control cancer as well long-term.
