First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tested a new powered prosthetic knee called Power Knee in 17 people with above-knee amputations. The goal was to see if it reduces effort during walking compared to their usual microprocessor knee. Participants walked for 6 minutes and rated their exertion. The study also looked at daily activities like stairs and sitting.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Power Knee (powered microprocessor controlled prosthetic knee)
What this could lead to
If successful, this powered knee could make walking easier and less tiring for people with above-knee amputations.
What could go wrong
This was a small, early study with only 17 people. The device may not work better for everyone, and it might be heavy or require more training.
