First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study tested whether the weight-loss drug phentermine/topiramate could help control uric acid kidney stones in people with obesity and type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes. 19 participants were randomly assigned to either the drug or standard care (citrate, allopurinol, diet) for 18 months. The main goal was to see if the drug reduced stone size, with secondary goals of weight loss, improved urine pH, and better blood sugar control.
