Blood test may unlock faster POTS diagnosis

NCT ID NCT03218761

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study aims to validate a blood test that measures NET mRNA levels as a simpler way to assess norepinephrine transporter function in people with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Researchers will compare these levels with traditional measures in 200 participants, including those with POTS and healthy controls. If the test works, it could make diagnosing POTS easier and faster.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simpler blood test to help diagnose POTS, replacing older, more complex methods.
What could go wrong
This is an early validation study, not a treatment trial. The blood test may not correlate well with actual NET function, limiting its diagnostic value.
