Can simple posture exercises ease jaw pain? new study investigates

NCT ID NCT06707467

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looked at whether adding postural exercises to standard occlusal splint therapy can better reduce pain and improve jaw function in people with internal temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. Fifty-seven adults were split into three groups: one received only a mouth splint, another added Rocabado exercises, and the third added general postural exercises. After two months, the researchers compared pain levels, movement, and psychological well-being to see which approach worked best.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

occlusal splint and postural exercises

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a more effective, non-invasive treatment for jaw pain and dysfunction.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 57 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The exercises require commitment and may not work for all types of TMJ disorders.
