Could a vaginal postbiotic boost IVF success?
NCT ID NCT07278024
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether postbiotic suppositories (containing natural bacteria byproducts) could improve the vaginal microbiome in 15 infertile women aged 30-45 who had at least two failed IVF attempts. Participants used one suppository daily for 8 weeks. Researchers measured changes in vaginal bacteria and pregnancy rates in a subsequent IVF cycle. The study is small and has no control group, so results are preliminary.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
postbiotic bacteriocin suppositories
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple way to improve pregnancy chances in women with repeated IVF failures.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early study with only 15 people and no comparison group. Results may not apply to others, and the treatment might not improve pregnancy rates.
