Hidden trauma: new study reveals psychological toll of cervical cancer radiation

NCT ID NCT07204535

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study follows 80 cervical cancer patients who receive brachytherapy (internal radiation) to see if they develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Participants fill out questionnaires about PTSD, anxiety, depression, quality of life, and sexual health over 5 years. The goal is to understand how common these psychological effects are and who might need extra support.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors identify patients at risk for post-traumatic stress after brachytherapy and develop better psychological support.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It only measures symptoms and does not test any new therapy, so direct patient benefit is limited.
