First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a telehealth program called PIC-TRFS for older adults (50+) who spent at least 48 hours in the ICU and are at risk for long-term problems. The program includes rehabilitation, health management, social support, and care coordination delivered over 6 months. Researchers want to see if it improves quality of life and function compared to usual care. The trial is currently suspended.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Post-Intensive Care Transitions Rehabilitation and Family Support (PIC-TRFS) program
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a standard telehealth support program to improve recovery and quality of life for older ICU survivors and their caregivers.
What could go wrong
This trial is suspended and still early. The intervention is complex and may not show clear benefits over usual care. Results may not apply to all ICU survivors.
