Doctors test Pocket-Sized scanners to cut unnecessary tests

NCT ID NCT04127149

Summary

This study tested whether giving family doctors portable ultrasound machines helps them care for patients better. For six months, some doctors used the handheld scanners during visits for eight common problems like pneumonia or suspected fractures, while others did not. Researchers wanted to see if having the scanner right in the office led to fewer referrals for expensive follow-up tests and lower overall healthcare costs.
