Could your own blood help you heal faster after gum surgery?
NCT ID NCT07637838
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This trial tests whether applying platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) — a wound dressing made from a patient's own blood — to the roof of the mouth after gum graft surgery improves pain, sleep, and overall quality of life compared to standard dressings. About 78 adults needing gum surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either PRF or a commercial dressing. Participants will report their pain and quality of life at several time points over two weeks and wear a sleep tracker to measure sleep quality.

Active substance
platelet-rich fibrin (PRF)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, natural way to reduce pain and speed healing after gum surgery, improving patients' daily comfort and sleep.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial (78 people) testing a specific surgical setting. Results may not apply to other procedures or populations, and PRF may not outperform standard dressings.
