New heel pain test could replace costly scans
NCT ID NCT07567807
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests two simple physical exam techniques to see if they can accurately diagnose chronic plantar fasciopathy, a common cause of heel pain. Researchers will compare these tests in 45 adults—some with the condition and some without—to measure how well they work. If proven reliable, these tests could help doctors diagnose heel pain faster and more affordably.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could give doctors a reliable, low-cost test to diagnose plantar fasciopathy without needing scans.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early exploratory study with only 45 participants, so results may not apply widely. The test may not prove accurate enough for routine use.
