Can balance training ease stubborn heel pain?
NCT ID NCT07754214
First seen Aug 10, 2026 · Last updated Aug 11, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether adding a supervised proprioception (balance) exercise program to standard stretching exercises improves pain, function, and disability in people with chronic plantar fasciitis, a common cause of heel pain. About 105 adults aged 18 to 65 with symptoms lasting at least 3 months will be assigned to either stretching alone or stretching plus proprioception exercises for 6 weeks. Researchers will measure pain intensity, pressure pain threshold, foot function, and biomechanical properties of the foot, ankle, and knee to see if the added exercises make a meaningful difference.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- A 6-week program of standard stretching exercises, with or without a supervised progressive proprioception exercise program.
- What this could lead to
- If adding proprioception exercises to standard stretching proves effective, it could offer a better non-drug way to reduce heel pain and improve foot function in people with chronic plantar fasciitis.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively small trial, and results may not apply to everyone. The added exercises require supervision and may not provide extra benefit beyond stretching alone.
