New study tests if blood markers can spot baby distress in real time
NCT ID NCT07258329
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is looking at whether certain substances from the placenta (called sFlt-1 and PlGF) can help doctors know if a baby is in trouble during labor. Researchers will check these markers in pregnant women and compare them to the baby's heart rate and health after birth. The goal is to see if a simple blood test could improve how we monitor labor and prevent harm to newborns.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a new screening method to detect fetal distress during labor earlier, potentially reducing birth complications.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It only looks for associations, so it may not directly change care. Results may not apply to all pregnancies.
